"GREEN GATE" : ICONIC POPULAR B&B is the culmination for a horticulturalist and his family which they designed & built 1995-2004 based on a true English manor home & surrounds. Despite the trend those years to build cheaper 'spec' homes, they scoured affluent Sydney suburbs for just the right character fixtures & fittings, eg coloured glass windows, solid timber doors, casement timber picture windows - all 'hand stitched' together to create a welcoming ambience. High ceilings and enormous sized rooms featuring hand picked antique furniture lend a decadent air to delight guests and keep them coming back to enjoy the tranquility of the setting amidst the sculptured private gardens and north facing sunbathed rural vistas ...or lounge around the paved courtyard with birdsong as the sun sets.
Entering through the impressive green gates, down the Agapantha lined driveway, the gardens open out and circle round to reveal the formal entrance. An expansive 'great hall' leads left to the formal and informal living areas , sitting room & office (private family area) whilst to the right is a wing of bedrooms with attendant ensuites, cavernous built-in robes and each with abundant light through large picture windows. Each bedroom large enough for a sitting nook or study area for the children.
Guests revel in the huge living room with the fireplace stoked for winter warmth. The eat-in kitchen provides an informal brekky space to meet new & interesting people from other parts, share sightseeing delights and move out into the day. Another north facing sunroom is ideal for those wishing to greet the day slowly.
Sadly, for the family who've created this peaceful corner of the world, the children have grown up and moved on so it's time for them to downsize - but not to leave Robertson, of course.
You may wish to make this icon into your own private weekender for friends, a welcoming family home, or continue to please the holiday makers with a few upgrades to suit your own tastes. Robertson is fast becoming a popular Southern Highlands destination village being positioned between the Illawarra coastline beaches & Bowral (30 mins to either), only 1.5 hours from Sydney or en route to Canberra (2 hours) or the snowfields.
